Wellington and Bay of Islands E-mail

It was still raining heavily when we reached the secluded River Valley, a beautiful and peaceful spot in the middle of the forest.

The only thing to do here is white water rafting, but that is not exactly my cup of tea, so I spent the evening relaxing, detoxing and watching the cats.

Wellington, the capital, was also extremely rainy so I did not get to do much sightseeing. It was even too foggy to get some decent pictures. I only went to the museum, which was great, and relaxed. I kept bumping into people I had met in different buses, and it was nice to know some of the people who got in the bus back to Auckland the next day.

Auckland was even rainier, and the evening was spent inside and at a bar with live music. Very nice. I decided not to spend my last two days in the city, but go north to the Bay of Islands. The weather on my way up was lovely and sunny. I went on a little cruise just off the coast, we got to see lots of dolphins playing around the boat. I could watch these guys all day! These are bottle-nosed dolphins (Flipper), the largest breed, and they are much bigger than I thought!

The boat went out to a cliff formation named Hole in the Rock by the imaginative Captain Cook. The boat, a catamaran, actually went through the hole. Spectacular!

The rest of the day I spent relaxing in the sun. It felt like I hadn't seen it in a while! The next day was my last, and I just walked along the beach, found a quiet spot and sat thinking about my time here in New Zealand. I've had a wonderful time and would definitely like to come back to spend more time in my favourite places and see the parts I didn't have time for on this trip. I have met so many great people that I hope to see again and have really fallen in love with this country. If you haven't been here yet, go!!!
