A poopular NZ expression!

Kiwi Experience is a hop on - hop off deal I booked back in April (2 passes for the price of one, always plan well ahead for good offers!) and after my paragliding course I hopped on in Christchurch and went to Kaikoura, a small fishing village a couple of hours north of Christchurch.

The beautiful snowy mountains in the background of Kaikoura are the Southern Alps.

Some of us went fishing and caught loads of fish, got to speak to the locals (including the skipper, who lost one leg and 7 fingertips in a shark attack in his teens) and then went down to the pub for trivia night. It pays off to be the oldest, my team made 4th place (beaten by locals only) ... Much thanks to my geeky Lord of the Rings knowledge.

Nelson lakes

The next day we went on to the Nelson lakes for some beautiful views and walks, then heading down the beautiful west coast for some stunning cliff formations. Unfortunatley the weather was not the best with lots of rain and wind.

The next stop was Lake Mahinapua, where we stayed at a legendary pub managed by Les the 84-year old publican. The theme of the night's fancy dress party was "naughty school girls", so you can all guess how that went on! As always, when tequila is involved, I had a little accident and tipped the whole upper bunk (when I was still on it), but fortunately alcohol makes my body limp as a ragdoll and it didn't hurt at all. I didn't understand what was going on until I was on the floor with the bed on top of me! One of the guys in my room didn't even wake up. Hilarious!
