Some gadgets are not for everybody (I'm getting a feeling that goes for my dear implant). I got some interesting ones at dealextreme.com and a few other places that I'd like to share. Website/blogOK, a blog is easy to set up and maintain (like at Blogger or similar sites), but a website needs a little more TLC. And A LOT of time. Dry spot cleanerHaven't really tried this thing yet, but you know how annoying it is when you have just one spot on a clean piece of clothing that just won't go away? Or maybe you don't. Gel shoe padsSticks very well to the shoes and can be used in every type of shoe including sandals. It does get dirty and loses the stickyness after a while, but just rinse it and it's as good as new! Toothbrush holderUseful? Yes. Looks silly? Maybe a little. You can stick it onto a mirror, but the main thing is that it keeps your toothbrush clean with some kind of anti-bacterial surface.
Travel multitoolA must for every handywoman. Bottle opener (no need to use your eye sockets), screwdrivers, knife, flashlight and pliers. And sooo cute, only 8 cm long!
Credit card with airport lounge accessBecause I'm flying budget airlines I will be having a few overnighters at airports or land/depart in the middle of the night. What could be better than a lovely lounge with free soft drinks, WiFi and NO SCREAMING CHILDREN?? Air travel socksAir travel makes your feet swell and you could actually risk blood clogs. My family has a history of them, so I like to be on the safe side. Plus, your feet feel so cool and light even after a 12-hour flight! Emergency fluteWell I do have a strong voice and I do know how to whistle myself, but just in case ... Carrying a flute was actually recommended by the Thai police after a Swedish woman was stabbed to death unprovoked on a beach last year. And mine's got a compass as well. Don't know how to use one, though.
Dummy walletIf you are unfortunate and do get robbed, remember that your life and good health is more important than any valuable you might carry with you. Stay calm and give them what they ask for, and they will leave you quickly. If you are worried about getting robbed, always carry a dummy wallet with a little cash and some invalid credit cards. Emergency toiletriesAre you one of those people who save all the little test packs of shampoo, facial cream and hotel soap? Good news! They are very handy when making a little emergency toiletries bag. Use a ziplock plastic bag (max. 1 liter) and make sure it's always in yor hand luggage (if it's in your checked-in luggage, well ... it's not really of any help, is it?). These things are also great for traveling light on weekend trips. Picture bookWhen all other body and sign language fails and you're a horrible drawing artist, this little book will help you explain to the doctor where it hurts or what sort of fruit you would like to buy.
