TidyPack backpack

TidyPack, the greatest Norwegian invention since the cheese slicer! This is the gadget that first got me thinking about all the gadgets I could get to make long term travelling a little easier. I am a tidy person, but when travelling with a backpack it's sooo easy to just stuff all your clothes randomly back in...

when you've taken something out because you know that if you spend 10 minutes folding everything neatly it will only stay that way until next time that last clean pair of shorts is hiding at the bottom.

The TidyPack's compartments are extremely handy for sorting your stuff and keeping it neat and folded. You don't have to throw your stuff all around the room to get an overview and packing is very quick because you just leave your stuff in the pack all the time. If you're a really tidy freak you could also label the compartments to remember what goes where.

There is also a built-in rain cover (fastened at the bottom so you won't lose it) and a cover for the straps when you check in your backpack at the airport. I have had backpacks ripped and buckles crushed because the straps got stuck somewhere in the luggage handling process.

It's comfortable to wear (also for girls as it's developed by a woman) and in general of good quality. Many long time travellers I have talked to, say that thousands of zippers and extra pockets and a fancy clip-on daypack really are more of a hassle than practical, so I think the number of pockets is ideal. The design is simple and does not yell "fresh-backpacker-who-got-tricked-into-buying-the-most-expensive-pack-in-the-store".

Because there is no clip-on daypack, I had to decide what sort of daypack I wanted to get, and after a lot of research I found this helpful thread in the Bootsnall forum that really sums it up and ended up getting a REI backback, which is very lightweight and perfect for water, camera, towel and such.
